9: SHATTERED FAITH - I Love America / Reagan Country (45) It was a midweek gig at the Cuckoo's Nest in the late spring of 1981 with Channel 3 showcasing for me. On the strength of their demo tape, I had already decided to sign them, seeing them play live was just a formality. The opening act was Shattered Faith and on the basis of their live set, I decided to add them to my ever growing stable of O.C. punk groups. |
|
When I took the recording contract around to one of the group member's houses and they seemed more preoccupied with smoking pot than discussing their career, I should have immediately retreated. By taking them into the studio and putting them on the radio, I allowed the group to manipulate not just the Posh Boy label but their own fans as they stumbled through a series of bad business decisions. |

120: SHATTERED FAITH -Right Is Right (COMP)(CD) The track "Right Is Right" also appears on 1987's The Future Looks Brighter CD. Other Shattered Faith tracks included on this comp include Another Day Passes, The Verdict, Trilogy, Reagan In '81, & I Love America. These same tracks also appear on 1981's very rare "The Future Looks Bright" radio promo LP. |
|
As contractually agreed upon, Shattered Faith were to record 12 songs for release on the Posh Boy label. The band went ahead into the studio to take advantage of recording on the label's budget, but ended up only recording 6 songs with Posh Boy (hence the songs that appear on the Future Looks Bright). |

PBS 2: SIMPLETONES - Kirsty Q/Dead Meat (Killer Smog) (45)
The Simpletones, who had a moment of fame with the release of BEACH BLVD, were known for their memorable stage presence, with co-ordinated dance movements among the original 3 lead singers. The last few gigs featured just Snickers on vocals. Somehow Snickers managed to assemble an excellent band; incredibly, the last Simpletones drummer was none other than Josh Freese who went onto to become a member of The Vandals and Devo, besides constant session work with such luminaries as Axl Rose. |
PBS 40: SISTERS GRIMM - Chocolate / Roger (45)(IP)
In the mid 90's these few last singles in the catalogue trickled out to little notice. Singles had become something of a chic calling card for bands in New York and Posh Boy's new staff producer, Paul Kostabi, found many new bands in the East Village eager to release their latest recordings on the legendary Posh Boy label. For its part, Posh Boy was thrilled to add new copyrights to its music publishing division. |

11: SOCIAL DISTORTION - Mainliner / Playpen (45)
"Playpen" (b/w "Mainliner") was the first Social D. release (1981.) The rights to their early material were bought back by the group together with their management in 1993, shortly before the 1994 Offspring punk boom place. No matter, Posh Boy needed the money and Time Bomb subsequently put out excellent CD re-issues giving due credit to Posh Boy. |

The Future Looks Bright was originally a 1981 cassette only release with 500 white label vinyl versions pressed without cover art for radio promotion. Posh Boy supplied the bands for Side A, SST Records the bands for Side B. SST bands included Black Flag, Descendents, Saccharine Trust and the Stains. |

PBS 8: STEPMOTHERS - Guardian Angels (45) The
Stepmothers were never fully embraced by the kids at the beach, even though
they were a major draw in the inland suburbs of Pomona, Upland and Ontario,
30 miles to the north. The fact of the matter was that lead vocalist Steve
Jones (known as John Henry Jones in The Unforgiven) had too much singing
ability and did not hide it as Billy Idol did in the early part of the English
singer's career. Minimalism was "in" during the early 80's and
Jones' approach was to flaunt his talent which endeared him to his rabid
but small following. |

1030: SYMBOL SIX - (LP) This Malibu group never reached their full potential, sadly never releasing an album's worth of material. Their songwriting was on par with the best of the O.C. groups.
Singer Eric (Ric) Leach remembers : "We played close to 50 shows with some very established bands: Social D, 45 Grave, China White,
Redd Cross, TSOL, Bad Religion, Channel 3 .... Lee Ving once said we were one of his favorite bands ... "
